The ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic and its far-reaching implications have made many people experience a wide range of thoughts, feelings and reactions, including anxiety, worry, anger, and feelings of helplessness. All these experiences are understandable in the face of a new challenge that one of us has never had to deal with before.

Plus, besides the loss of lives and fear of getting the virus yourself or your loved ones getting sick, there have also been imposed a number of restrictions that led to rapid changes to our way of life, including our work, study, and social gatherings. Moreover, with still much uncertainty about when it will all be over, stress and anxiety are normal.

Yet, COVID-19-related anxiety can be a severe mental health challenge if you don’t know how to cope with this wide range of unsettling feelings. But counselling can help you deal with them and healthily overcome them.

How can counselling help?

During these uncertain and challenging times, it can feel really overwhelming to experience so many negative emotions and not know how to manage them. It can be tough to maintain your mental health and well-being when coping with so many changes in your life, uncertainty, and fear. When experiencing all these feelings, counselling can help you.

First of all, a professional therapist will help you understand your feelings and worries better, which is the first step to finding a solution to your problems. You will get to feel listened to and understood and will be guided throughout your entire journey of exploring your thoughts and feelings. With professional guidance from a therapist, you will learn how to cope with what you are feeling right now and maintain your mental health.

A professional counsellor will provide the right type of therapy for you to support you reduce anxiety, enhance your resilience, and learn how to help your loved ones deal with their emotions as well.

Should I seek counselling?

It’s normal to feel anxious and experience fear in the face of these uncertain times and all the implications of the Coronavirus crisis. Yet, while feeling a little bit stressed for not knowing what will happen next and feeling fear of infection are normal, when these negative emotions start affecting you in your daily life, it’s time to ask for professional help.

COVID-19-related anxiety can make you experience difficulty concentrating, insomnia, feeling disconnected from others, constantly restless, sadness, frustration, feeling overwhelmed, and physical symptoms (increased heart rate, fatigue, stomach upset). If you are experiencing the symptoms above, it means that Coronavirus-related anxiety is interfering with your day-to-day life, and it is best to seek therapy.

Looking after your mental health in uncertain times like these is essential to help you still take calm and effective action during this global pandemic. Counselling can help you learn how to manage Coronavirus-related negative emotions and thoughts and how to remain strong in the face of this challenge.
