Mental health has been the buzzword for quite some time now. The COVID pandemic also pushed every one of us to take a long, hard look at our mental condition.

If you have been struggling with mental health issues such as depression and anxiety, then here are some quick and simple tips for you to take charge of your mental health.

5 Tips for Better Mental Health

These are some simple tips to make your mental health better than ever before, such as –

1. Get social

Try to step out of the house often. Meet people. Try to talk to people. Catch up with old friends. Stay connected with your family. Getting social is one of the best ways to amp up your mental health game.

2. Stay physically active

By indulging in just a short 40-minute exercise session every day, you can see a great improvement in your mental health. Exercise reduces stress levels, increases your happiness quotient, promotes deeper sleep, and provides a host of other benefits that ultimately positively impact your mental health.

3. Pick up a hobby

simple hobby such as painting or gardening or, even, reading a book is enough to reduce stress levels and improve your mental health. Try to spend at least 30 minutes a day doing something that will relax your nerves and make you feel happy.

4. Be mindful of what you eat

What you eat also affects your mental health to a great extent. Supplement your regular diet with things that are full of good fatty acids, antioxidants, and other nutritive elements.

5. Take sleep seriously

Sleep is of paramount importance when it comes to maintaining good mental health. Sleep for at least 6 – 7 hours every day. Aim for a deep and relaxed sleep each night.

And, when should you seek help?

Sometimes we face big, daunting challenges in life. Certain situations take a toll on our mental health. And, more often than not, when faced with such situations and challenges, we need something more than just self-care.

That is when you must seek help from a professional therapist.

It is important to identify the point in time when you must seek help. Here are some signs that should push you to reach out to a professional counsellor –

  • Are you feeling overwhelmed? Sometimes we feel overwhelmed by the things happening around us – like we are fighting a lot of battles or feeling a lot of emotions at the same time and we really cannot figure it all out by ourselves.
  • Have you lost hope? If you have tried a lot of things to fix your situation but you are still feeling hopeless, it might be time to seek professional help.
  • Are you experiencing physical symptoms such as loss of appetite, disturbed sleep, and more? These are all signs that your mental health is disturbed.

If you are facing similar symptoms, please connect with a qualified therapist.
