About

I am an experienced counsellor/psychotherapist.

Whether you are going through a painful time in your life, want to manage your mental well-being or have more self-understanding for growth and development, I can offer you the necessary help and support tailored specifically to you as an individual.
I work with adults only on an individual basis, treating people mainly suffering from anxiety, depression, relationship issues and bereavement but have worked with a range of mental illnesses.
My style as a therapist is in part structured as well as providing you the space to speak freely and explore your thoughts and feelings. I am a warm and understanding practitioner who values treating my clients sensitively and with respect.
Life can throw all kinds of obstacles at us but it's how we manage them that determines our quality of life. As a therapist, I will provide you with a space to talk confidentially and offer understanding and insight into your circumstances. Having more clarity over our situation and ourselves empowers us to move forward with our lives and reach our potential.

Therapy is not advice, it is support and guidance over a period of time, whether it be 6 weeks or years. The desired outcome is generated from the therapeutic relationship, expertise and understanding of the therapist, as well as the commitment of the client. It's about helping you to take control of your life and for you to make authentic decisions based on the here and now reality.
I have a BSc in Forensic Psychology, an MSc in Psychological Research, and an MBACP certificate award which means I'm a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I am also DBS-checked and registered with the Information Commissioners Office (GDPR). I have worked in various therapy centres in the northwest of England, as well as charitable organisations.

The type of therapy I do is Transactional Analysis which is a theory of personality. This was developed in the '60s by Psycho Analyst and MD Eric Berne, who studied under Sigmund Freud. TA is loosely based on Psycho-Analysis but was made with the intention of the therapist and client being equal as opposed to the therapist being the authority and the client the subject. It looks at personality traits and types, past experiences (in particular with regards to upbringing), blind spots in our awareness of self and others, and in-depth analysis of social interactions and relationships. The intended outcome is to help you the client build on self-awareness, spontaneity and intimacy (closeness with people). These are the pillars of which we can build a more authentic sense of self and have a deeper and more realistic understanding of other people and their intentions.

******Please note - I can't see clients in the US and Canada as my insurance does not unfortunately cover it*******
