“I would like to share how much of a difference Nova has made to my life. With their support, I have been able to start managing myself in a much healthier way and begin properly looking after my own wellbeing. They have helped me slow down, reflect, and really dig deeper into my thoughts and feelings - to understand why I react the way I do, who is involved in my experiences, and what may be behind it all. This has not always been easy, but I feel more grounded and more aware of myself than I did before. I am genuinely grateful for the time, patience, and understanding I have been shown, as it has helped me begin to rebuild confidence in myself and how I cope with things.”

Client reflections
“Nova provides a warm, supportive and courageous therapeutic space. The work we ended up doing was far deeper than I had expected. Nova was incredibly gentle and didn't put any pressure on where I "should" be looking but instead, held a light for me to see where I was going, providing a kind of scaffolding for me to safely explore a very deep and dark loss. Nova is as bright as a button, brings a lovely smile and humour to her work and her compassion for women in the world is unending. I would wholeheartedly recommend Nova to anyone seeking support.”
“Nova worked with me following the sudden and unexpected passing of my Mum . We ended up working together for some time. I found her to be deeply supportive and caring. She has a warm demeanor that put me at ease and allowed me to open up about a variety of topics, without fear of judgement . Alongside the work around grief, I was able to make sense of some other factors in my life that were causing concern, and to make useful changes to my lifestyle, which had been affecting emotional health. The sessions proved to be enormously helpful.”

About Nova
My name is Nova Nolan, I am a humanistic, integrative counsellor working in Brighton and online. I provide a therapeutic counselling service for people who feel they need support, guidance, a safe space to explore themselves or simply a need to be witnessed and heard.
Gently and with compassion, I listen, I observe, I reflect and support exploration. Sometimes what emerges is a desire for change, for others it is a want to understand themselves more deeply or perhaps to make an important decision. We work together to create a therapeutic pathway that makes sense to you.
I aim to provide a space that feels safe, warm, and free from judgment, criticism, or discrimination. With these conditions in place, we can start to explore.

Therapeutic approach
At the center of my practice is a compassionate curiosity and a desire for all the different parts of you to take up space and be heard. I invite you to contemplate that we are not a singular self but a collection of selves. Some parts are more dominant than others, but all are valuable and have something useful to communicate. It may be valuable to do some reorganising to allow quieter and perhaps denied parts to be heard as well. Welcoming all of ourselves can feel like a homecoming—a settling into an experience of self that makes sense.
I work from a position of "What has happened to you?" rather than "What's wrong with you?" We are molded by our experiences and relationships, so we might visit your history and family stories to better understand how you relate to yourself and others. Gathering information can provide a sense of choice; you may want to update some strategies that no longer serve you... What could be different? How can you be different? Safety and choice also come from connection and the relationship. Not being alone with sadness, distress, and challenge is so very important.

It all begins with me listening carefully as your thoughts, feelings and stories begin to emerge, we choose which paths to follow. Sometimes this might include some creative experiments, perhaps a writing exercise or playing with objects, it's not always talking and listening. I will also pay attention to your body, perhaps to the way your breath is moving or noticing what a clenched fist might be trying to communicate, your body expresses in all sorts of ways.
