Approach

As an Art Psychotherapist, Lucy seamlessly blends creative exploration with Psychodynamic insights. She offers the use of art materials, symbols, and images to help you explore deep feelings that might be hard to put into words. There is absolutely no need to be 'good at art' - it simply serves as a powerful alternative when talking feels like a struggle. Highly flexible, Lucy is equally happy to rely solely on conversation if you prefer, ensuring the work is always paced exactly to what feels right for you.

What Clients Say

What really stands out about Lucy is her ability to provide a different way of communicating. For anyone who finds it difficult to 'just talk' about their problems, her creative approach offers a safe way to express complex emotions through metaphor and imagery. Clients value her structured and reliable presence, and they appreciate that she truly understands what it’s like to navigate the world with a mind that works a bit differently.

About Lucy

Hello, my name is Lucy. I am an experienced Art Psychotherapist, registered with the HCPC to work with adults and young people. I have extensive experience working in schools and within the NHS, supporting individuals experiencing anxiety, low mood, bullying, peer pressure, academic pressure, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, loss and bereavement, trauma, identity concerns, and cultural and gender-related issues.

I provide a safe, confidential, and supportive space to explore thoughts and feelings through both creative and talking-based therapy, offering both short-term and long-term therapeutic work. I am deeply motivated by the power of creativity and its ability to support emotional understanding and healing. Many people find it easier to express themselves through images rather than words. As someone who is dyslexic, I understand first-hand how challenging traditional forms of communication can be, whilst also recognising the strengths that come with thinking differently and creatively. Creativity allows access to the unconscious and offers a safe way to work in metaphor when reality feels overwhelming, and this belief continues to guide and inspire my therapeutic work.

Key Focus Areas

I have experience supporting adults, young people, and families with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties, including early childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, low mood, relationship challenges, separation and divorce, low self-esteem, bullying, bereavement, family breakdown, PTSD, emotional distress, identity concerns, and cultural and gender-related issues.

My MA in Art Psychotherapy qualifies me to work with adults and young people presenting with a broad range of emotional and psychological difficulties. Much of my professional experience has been within school and CAMHS settings, working closely with adolescents experiencing emotional distress and relational difficulties.

Therapeutic approach

My primary approach is creative, using art materials alongside psychodynamic thinking to explore emotions that may relate to past and ongoing experiences. Creative work offers an alternative form of communication and can help access unconscious feelings that may be difficult to put into words. Through images, symbols, and metaphor, clients are often able to explore experiences safely and at their own pace. This approach is not about being good at art. It is about understanding how you are feeling, developing emotional awareness, and finding meaningful ways to express and work through difficulties in a supportive environment.

My work integrates creative practice with psychodynamic thinking and early childhood development theory, allowing exploration of both present experiences and early relational patterns. Sessions may involve drawing, painting, working with images, or other creative materials, depending on what feels most comfortable and meaningful for you. It is also absolutely fine not to use art materials. Talking therapy is always available, and sessions are shaped around your preferences, needs, and pace.
