Client reflections

“My experience was very helpful. I felt heard and found it easy to open up about difficult topics. I had not done any therapy before and it was a real help to me and my relationship at a time when I felt I needed help. Much of my sessions were spent processing some past events that I felt I hadn’t moved on from. Davina was good at listening then directing my thoughts to links I had not made. We also went into other parts of my childhood that I felt really helped me process the reason I acted in life now.”

About Davina

I am a passionate and committed therapist who believes that every individual has a unique story shaped by their experiences, emotions, and personal journey. I understand that seeking therapy is often a step toward understanding, healing, and growth. In my practice, I provide a safe, non-judgmental, and compassionate space where you are seen and valued as a whole person, not just a number. I aim to listen deeply not only to your words but also to the emotions and meanings beneath them. Together we can work toward greater clarity, self-acceptance, and meaningful forward movement.

I understand that each individual is unique, and my therapeutic approach offers a warm, supportive, and at times, gently challenging experience. While it is important that you feel safe, seen, supported, and not judged a space where you can show up as yourself offering gentle challenges can open the door to change, new perspectives, and opportunities for growth. As a therapist, I deeply value the therapeutic relationship, which serves as the anchor of the therapeutic process, especially when working online. This is built through commitment, consistency, reliability, cultural sensitivity, and creating a space where clients feel free to express themselves authentically. In a session with me, you can expect to feel heard, seen, and understood. I pay close attention to non-verbal cues, emotional nuances, and the feelings that are often difficult to express. Therapy is not always straightforward, as we untangle the many twists and turns of life. Together, we work toward positive change whether through setting small goals between sessions, identifying patterns of relational, or simply showing up to explore and understand your experiences in a safe, supportive space.

My journey to becoming a therapist stems from my childhood, when people would confide in me things they hadn’t shared with anyone else, often saying, “Thank you for listening; you’ve really helped me.” Unknowingly, those moments planted a seed in me a desire to help others and understand the human mind. Later, in adulthood, I faced my own challenges and sought therapy. It was a mixed experience at first, but eventually, I found a therapist who truly changed my life. That experience became the final push I needed to pursue a path as a therapist and dedicate myself to helping others navigate their journeys. One of my core beliefs about therapy is that seeking support does not mean you’ve reached the end of the road. Often, it means you are at a crossroads, seeking guidance on which path to take next. The beauty of therapy lies in having a safe space where you are seen, heard, understood, and not judged. In that space, what once felt like a dilemma transforms into a choice a choice you make on your own terms. That is the essence of healing, growth, and change. For me, the most rewarding moments are when clients begin to see their situation differently, when that “lightbulb” moment of understanding and clarity appears on their faces. Those are the moments that make this work meaningful and remind me why I chose this path.

Key Focus Areas

I have a broad range of training in the psychology field and have previously worked within the NHS IAPT programme, supporting individuals with common issues such as depression and anxiety.

In addition, I have experience in private practice and charities, and I have gained further qualifications in sexual abuse/violence and culturally sensitive therapy.

My primary areas of expertise include: trauma-related concerns, childhood trauma, adult trauma, cultural issues and relationship difficulties. I also work with couples to support: conflict resolution, intimacy issues, communication challenges and infidelity.

Therapeutic approach

My work is underpinned by an integrative approach, as each individual and couple has different needs. Working in this way allows me to combine different therapeutic methods to best support each person or couple. I understand that every individual is unique and relates differently. Using an approach that reflects this ensures that the individual or couple remains at the center of the process.

I believe that people are naturally driven toward growth and healing when provided with the right conditions. Approaches I may draw from include:

- Psychodynamic Therapy: exploring how past experiences influence the present.

- Person-Centered Therapy: empathy, unconditional positive regard, and support for personal growth.

- Humanistic Approach: emphasises free will and unique subjective experiences.

- Culturally Sensitive Therapy: tailoring interventions to the client’s cultural background and values.

Session Types

Individual

I work with both individuals and couples, with specialised training in trauma-related concerns and relationship difficulties. When working with individuals, I create a safe and supportive space where we can explore challenges at your own pace. I walk alongside you to break down barriers, cultivate deep personal exploration, and foster growth. Working at a pace that suits you allows me to understand your challenges and goals, so we can move forward together with tools and strategies tailored specifically to you. I believe no issue or challenge is “silly” if it matters to you, it matters to me.

Couple

When working with couples, I recognise that each person brings their own patterns of relating, which can sometimes lead to breakdowns in connection or unexpected challenges over time. With my training and experience, I support couples in areas such as conflict resolution, communication, intimacy, trust, and navigating cultural differences. My approach helps couples understand themselves and each other, fostering stronger, healthier relationships.
