I’m Angie and I’ve been working as a counsellor for 11 years now. I am BACP accredited and registered and have been for over 7 years. My previous work was in the NHS as a nurse and primarily a midwife.
My counselling training was integrative but focused on the person-centred approach, which I chose because of my own experience—and now deeply held acceptance—that every individual is a unique being who is evolving during their life to become all that they can and want to be.
The wide variety of clients I have worked with has also taught me that when offering the core conditions (empathy, genuineness, unconditional respect/caring) change is always possible and with support every individual is capable of solving their problems and resolving their issues in order to live what they perceive and choose to be a better quality of life.
The way I work gives you the opportunity to talk in confidence to someone about your concerns. I will listen to you and by doing this enable you to share your thoughts and feelings with someone else, then working through them will help you to cope with the situation you find yourself in.
Counselling isn’t about being told what to do to solve a problem. It is more of an opportunity for you to try and understand yourself and your situation better and then be able to move forward. If you decide to change anything about yourself or your life, then it will be because you want to.
It can help you to get in touch with your feelings and enable you to come to terms with them. It aims to help you to feel more empowered, with the focus being you. After bereavement or any other life event, some of these feelings may be very strong or feel overwhelming at times. As your counsellor I will support you and enable you to cope.
So my approach is humanistic and based upon the person-centred ideology, but evolves for me every time I begin working with a new client because every client teaches me more about counselling and also myself.
I offer face-to-face, Skype and telephone counselling to individuals (I do work with couples by skype or face-to-face)
Of course in the current health crisis we are all facing I can only offer telephone and skype work.
I also work as a counselling supervisor and am always happy discuss working together with colleagues so please get in touch.
