About Ailis

I became a therapist because I had worked on my mental health for many years with a therapist and I couldn't believe the difference it made to my life. I'm a person centred therapist and I am comfortable discussing all of life's topics with you in a frank and open way. It can be hard talking to mental health professionals about these aspects of life, particularly if you have faced judgement in the past. I can provide you and your partner(s) with the space to discuss your issues openly and honestly, without fear. I see my role to really help you through your own struggles, and allow us to problem solve together. As a person-centred therapist, I am here to support you in how you need it. We might work together at the start of our sessions to establish what that help might look like, that could mean working out if homework is appealing to you, or what kind of topics you'd like to explore in session. I also work with you to collaborate on space that works for us as a team. I often use emotional identification in the early stages of therapy to help establish that awareness, and we can use it to structure how we move forward.

To establish a comfortable space online, I often discuss the idea of accommodations. This can mean discussing seating arrangements - if you want to lie down in sessions, that works! I also make sure you can relax in sessions, look around the room or use fidget toys. There's no need to stare straight at the camera if that doesn't work for you. As long as we can hear and see each other in session, then it's best to be as comfortable as you can.

I wanted to be able to share how therapy had changed things for me with others, and that's when I went on to study. I believe that we all deserve the time, space and compassion from other people in our lives, and the therapeutic relationship can offer a place for that to be fostered so you can bring those skills into your everyday life. I want to work with people to help them see how their relationships could be if they were able to embrace their honesty and learn how to communicate that in a clear and brave way. We are all told that who we are is not enough, and when you're able to embrace who you are and really live that you are enough, it can open so much space for you to develop, grow and love.

Key Focus Areas

I’m a person-centred therapist who primarily works with members of LGBTQ+, non-monogamous, sex work positive and kink communities. As a queer therapist, I can help you explore your issues in a safe and non-judgmental place. Having a deeper understanding of the community allows me to appreciate the struggles (and joys) of queerness.

I am also part of queer, kink and non-monogamous communities, so I am comfortable discussing these topics with you in a frank and open way. It can be hard talking to mental health professionals about these aspects of life, particularly if you have faced judgement in the past. I can provide you and your partner(s) with the space to discuss your issues openly and honestly, without fear.

Therapeutic approach

Progress isn’t always linear, and I want to help you embrace that. Our concept of relationships, happiness and what we want from life can always be expanding and changing as we do. Growth unfortunately isn’t always a consistent, easy path. Therapy can help you develop the confidence to realise and embrace the things you need in life, and the fortitude to move towards them.

Thinking about the issues in our lives can be overwhelming, like looking at a big, tangled ball of string. Often the idea of pulling on any of those threads can feel too difficult, or you might just not know where to start. I can provide you with the space, the care and the knowledge to look at these issues individually.

I use an integrative approach with techniques from ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), CBT and traditional talk therapy. As a person-centred therapist, I believe that you are the most knowledgeable person about your own life, but I can help shine a light on some aspects and walk you through different perspectives that might be beneficial.

I work with you to find out what works best for you. I work with people on a short or long term basis. I have experience working with depression, anxiety, stress, interpersonal and family issues, relationship problems, body image and confidence concerns, substance use issues, struggles with sexuality, people exploring different relationship identities and many other mental health concerns.

Ready to Begin?

My practice is specifically modelled on the needs of my clients. I can collaborate with you, wherever you’re at, and help you work out what’s important to you. It can be incredibly distressing and isolating when we are in conflict in our lives. Sometimes it can feel like we are speaking different languages. We desperately want to understand each other but we can’t seem to get past certain issues. I can help you work together to step outside of your conflicts and see where things are getting lost. It’s not easy to speak to someone else about our lives, but I work with you to create an open environment where you can relearn the things you love about each other. Online relationship therapy allows you to slow down your thoughts, think through your patterns and behaviour and work out what’s going on for you.
