Couples can transform conflict into understanding and disconnection into renewed closeness through professional relationship counselling provided by UK Therapy Guide.

When Your Relationship Feels Disconnected

Many couples face periods of emotional distance and unresolved issues, making it essential to seek help when feeling disconnected.

Many couples experience periods where something feels off—conversations lead to arguments, emotional distance grows, or past hurts resurface.

What was once a source of comfort and joy may now feel strained, leaving you wondering if things can improve or if you're simply growing apart.

Research shows nearly 80% of couples seeking relationship therapy cite communication breakdowns as their primary concern, while 65% mention unresolved trust issues

Relationship Counselling as the Solution

Relationship counselling provides a structured, supportive environment where both partners can express themselves openly with guidance from an impartial professional. Your relationship therapist will help you:

  • Identify unhelpful patterns in your communication
  • Facilitate meaningful conversations about difficult topics
  • Teach practical skills for resolving conflicts constructively
  • Build deeper emotional connection and understanding
  • Develop strategies for long-term relationship health

Studies show that 70-80% of couples report significant improvements after relationship counselling with benefits often lasting years beyond the sessions themselves.

Online relationship counselling offers the same benefits with added convenience—no travel time, flexible scheduling, and the comfort of your own space. This accessibility has made therapy possible for many couples who might otherwise struggle to attend in-person sessions.

Relationship counselling provides a structured environment with impartial guidance to enhance communication and deepen understanding between partners.

Common Concerns about Relationship Counselling

Many couples find that online therapy provides a familiar, comfortable environment to explore relationship challenges, all whilst receiving the same quality of therapeutic support as traditional face-to-face sessions.
Is our relationship worth saving?

Only you can answer this, but relationship therapy provides clarity and tools to make an informed decision about your future together.

What if only one of us wants counselling?

While both partners' participation is ideal, individual relationship counselling can still provide valuable insights and strategies for improving your connection.

Will the therapist take sides?

Our relationship therapists maintain neutrality, focusing on understanding both perspectives and facilitating mutual understanding rather than assigning blame.

Is online relationship therapy as effective as in-person?

Many couples find that online therapy provides a familiar, comfortable environment to explore relationship challenges, all whilst receiving the same quality of therapeutic support as traditional face-to-face sessions.

I help Individuals and Couples reconnect, reflect and heal – both with themselves and within their relationships.

Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply seeking more clarity and connection, therapy with me offers a compassionate space to explore what is really going on beneath the surface. My approach is rooted in empathy, curiosity and collaboration.

Together, we will untangle the patterns that may be keeping you from feeling understood, valued and emotionally safe. You don’t need to have all the answers – just a willingness to begin.

Wherever you are on your journey, I’ll be alongside you as we explore things together.

About Me

Hi, I’m Ylenia, a Relationship Therapist dedicated to supporting individuals and couples in navigating life’s challenges, improving communication and building stronger, healthier relationships.

My Style & How I Work

Empathy, trust and confidentiality are at the heart of my work. Therapy with me is a judgment-free space, where you can explore your thoughts, emotions and relationship patterns with the guidance of a professional.

Together, we’ll explore what’s holding you back and find new ways to understand and care for yourself. In the therapy room, I create a balanced and non-judgmental space where you will feel heard.

Fluent in both English and Italian, I strive to make therapy inclusive, accessible and culturally sensitive. I also stay up to date with the latest therapeutic practices through CPD trainings and BACP conferences, ensuring I provide the most effective support possible.

My Story & What Drives Me

My journey into therapy began with a deep interest in human relationships – why we connect, how we disconnect and what helps us repair.

Originally from Lazio, Italy, I moved to the UK over 10 years ago to fully pursue this calling. I began my path with a degree in Psychosocial Studies & Psychodynamic Counselling and volunteered for years with Samaritans, where I offered emotional support to individuals in distress. This experience shaped my understanding of how powerful being truly heard can be.

What drives me most is, witnessing those moments of reconnection: when a client begins to see themselves with more compassion, or when a couple finds their way back to emotional closeness. Those shifts are powerful and deeply human.

Types of Therapy I Offer

I offer individual and couples therapy for adults.

Whether you’re seeking support as an individual or a couple, I offer a warm and non-judgmental space where we can explore what you are going through and work towards meaningful, lasting change – at your pace.

My Expertise & Focus Areas

I support people dealing with many different issues including:

  • Anxiety
  • Self-esteem issues
  • Depression
  • Life changes

I help couples:

  • Improve communication
  • Rebuild connection
  • Navigate challenges such as conflict, intimacy issues, parenthood, infidelity

My Therapeutic Approach & Methods

My work is guided by an integrative approach, which means I combine different therapeutic models to best support each individual or couple I work with. I don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” method – each person is unique, so I adapt my approach based on your needs, goals and the issues you’re facing.

At the heart of my work is the belief that self-awareness and emotional connection are key to creating lasting change. I draw from:

  • Psychodynamic Therapy: to explore how past experiences might be influencing your present
  • Systemic Therapy: to understand how relationships and patterns affect your current situation
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT): to help individuals and couples better understand their emotional needs and rebuild safe, secure connections

My philosophy of counselling is based on the person as a whole – working on the mind, body and emotions.

About Me

Who am I:   First of all, “welcome” and thank you for taking some time to read about me and my way of helping and supporting you in a therapeutic journey of self development and change. I am a fully qualified and experienced integrative Counsellor and a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). I have experience working with diversity in both culture, gender and heritage having worked internationally for many years.

My Style & How I Work

The approach I use is individual for each client, dependent on my client’s personality, story and emotional need.  My counselling model is an eclectic blend of different elements of models or therapies ie. psychodynamic, humanistic and Intercultural and if required some initial grounding using mindfulness or focussing, alongside breathing techniques. My work is to help overcome challenges which are overwhelming and to deal with issues of identity, difference & diversity. My passion is working with clients to help bring some clarity and balance into their lives, giving them permission to explore & be in touch with their feelings, to help them with their own personal growth and self development. I have experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, including those navigating complex personal histories, stress at home or work, or periods of uncertainty. My focus is always on helping you gain insight, feel more empowered and move toward lasting change.

My Story & What Drives me

I worked originally in the corporate world and changed my direction to support others in a different field. I’ve always been compassionate and an avid listener so decided to use these skills in a professional manner. What drives me now is a deep belief in the resilience of the human spirit and  believing in change.

Types of Therapy I Offer

I offer both face to face and remote counselling for adults, couples, family and adolescents seeking support with a wide range of emotional, relational and psychological challenges.  These may include anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, self-esteem, life transitions or identity issues.

My Expertise & Focus Areas

I work integratively, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural techniques depending on your unique needs and preferences. The core of my work is a warm, non-judgemental relationship where you feel safe to explore difficult thoughts and feelings at your own pace.

My Therapeutic Approach & Methods

At the heart of my work is the belief that every person has the capacity to grow, heal and make meaningful change – given the right support and environment.I bespoke my approach to suit each person, maybe with the use of breathing techniques for grounding alongside other integrative models to include CBT (techniques and strategies to help you through your life journey).Therapy for me is based on a simple but powerful idea ‘when we feel heard, safe and accepted just as we are, we begin to understand ourselves more clearly – and from that understanding, change becomes possible’.
The foundation of therapy with me is always about connection, curiosity and compassion. Whether you are coming to therapy as an individual, a couple or a family, my aim is to hep you feel more in control of your life, more connected to others and more at peace with yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions About Relationship Counselling

How does relationship counselling work?

Relationship counselling provides a structured, supportive environment where couples can discuss challenges with guidance from a trained therapist.

Sessions typically last 50-60 minutes and focus on improving communication, resolving conflicts, and strengthening emotional connection.

Your relationship therapist will help identify unhelpful patterns in your relationship and teach practical skills for creating positive change. Most couples attend weekly or fortnightly sessions, with the overall duration depending on your specific situation and goals.

How many relationship counselling sessions will we need?

The number of sessions varies based on your specific challenges, goals, and commitment to the process.

Some couples experience significant improvements within 8-12 sessions, while others benefit from longer-term relationship therapy spanning several months.

Your therapist will discuss timeframes during your initial sessions and regularly review progress. Research shows that even short-term counselling of 12-15 sessions can produce lasting positive changes in relationship satisfaction.

Will relationship counselling work if only one of us thinks there's a problem?

Ideally, both partners should acknowledge there are aspects of the relationship that could improve, even if they disagree about the nature or cause of the problems.

However, when one partner is more motivated than the other, counselling can still be beneficial. A skilled relationship therapist can help the reluctant partner feel heard and understood, potentially increasing their engagement.

Sometimes starting the process is enough to demonstrate the value of therapy and encourage fuller participation.

Is relationship counselling only for couples in crisis?

No, relationship counselling benefits couples at all stages. While many seek help during difficult times, therapy can also strengthen already functioning relationships, prevent future problems, and enhance connection and intimacy.

Some couples use relationship therapy proactively before marriage, after having children, or during other significant life transitions. Early intervention often leads to better outcomes and prevents small issues from becoming more serious problems.

How much does relationship counselling cost with UK Therapy Guide?

Our relationship therapists set their own fees, typically ranging from £60-£120 per session depending on their experience, qualifications, and location.

Online sessions are generally more affordable than in-person therapy, saving on travel costs and allowing access to qualified therapists regardless of geography.

What's the difference between relationship counselling and couples therapy?

The terms "relationship counselling" and "couples therapy" are often used interchangeably in the UK. Both refer to therapeutic work with partners to improve relationship functioning.

Some practitioners make subtle distinctions—relationship counselling may focus more on current problems and practical solutions, while couples therapy might delve deeper into emotional patterns and their origins.

At UK Therapy Guide, our relationship therapists are trained in various approaches and adapt their methods to your specific needs.

How do we choose the right relationship therapist?

Finding the right fit is crucial for successful relationship therapy. Consider factors like the therapist's training in relationship work, their approach and specialties, and whether you both feel comfortable with them.

At UK Therapy Guide, we streamline this process through our matching service, connecting you with therapists whose expertise aligns with your specific needs.

What if we're considering separation or divorce?

Relationship counselling can be valuable even when couples are unsure about their future together.

A relationship therapist can help you explore options with clarity, communicate more effectively during a difficult time, and make thoughtful decisions rather than reactive ones.

For some couples, therapy leads to reconciliation; for others, it facilitates an amicable separation with less emotional damage. The goal is not necessarily to keep couples together but to help them determine the healthiest path forward.
