How Grief Therapy Can Support Your Healing Path

Grief is a deeply personal journey that affects us all differently. At UK Therapy Guide, we connect you with qualified grief therapists and bereavement counsellors who provide compassionate support when you're facing loss. Whether you're looking for online grief counselling, online bereavement counselling, or in-person therapy sessions, our specialists create a safe space for you to process your emotions at your own pace.

Feeling lost? Grief therapy can help you find your path forward.

When Loss Feels Overwhelming

Feeling tangled in your grief? We can help you unravel the complexities of loss.

Grief can manifest in unexpected ways—sleepless nights, difficulty concentrating, overwhelming emotions, or even physical symptoms. You might feel isolated in your experience, especially when others seem to have "moved on" while you're still struggling with the raw pain of your loss.

Many people worry they're "not doing grief right" or that they should be "over it by now." The truth is, there's no timeline for grief, and the impact of loss can resurface during significant dates, milestones, or unexpected moments that trigger memories.

Grief doesn't follow a predictable timeline. Many experience waves of emotion that come and go, sometimes when least expected. This natural response to loss deserves compassionate, professional support through specialised loss counselling.

Finding Your Path Through Grief

Bereavement therapy provides a dedicated space where your feelings are acknowledged and honoured. A specialist grief counsellor helps you navigate the complex emotions of loss while developing coping strategies tailored to your specific needs and circumstances.

Online grief and bereavement counselling makes this support accessible from the comfort and privacy of your own home. This can be particularly valuable when grief leaves you feeling drained or when venturing out feels overwhelming. Your counsellor will work at your pace, respecting your unique grieving process.

Bereavement therapy isn't about "fixing" grief—it's about finding healthy ways to integrate your loss into your life moving forward. Our therapists help you honour your relationship with what you've lost while gradually rebuilding your sense of meaning and purpose.

Let us help you navigate your journey through grief with compassionate support.

Common Questions About Grief Counselling

Many worry that grief counselling might reopen emotional wounds, but research consistently shows that professional support helps process feelings in a structured, supportive environment, leading to healthier outcomes than facing grief alone.
"Is it too soon to seek grief therapy?"

There's no "right time" to seek support. Some people benefit from immediate counselling after a loss, while others may wait months or years. Whenever you feel ready is the right time.

"Will therapy make me feel worse by focusing on my loss?"

While therapy may temporarily intensify emotions as you process them, research shows that addressing grief with professional support leads to better long-term mental health outcomes than avoidance.

"Can I really connect with a therapist online about something so personal?"

Many clients find online grief counselling creates a comfortable, private environment where they can express difficult emotions from their own safe space.

"What if I just need to be stronger and get through this on my own?"

Seeking support isn't a sign of weakness—it's a courageous step toward healing. Even the strongest people benefit from professional guidance during profound loss.

My Style & How I Work

My journey into therapy started as a Criminal Lawyer in Italy, where I worked daily with people facing intense psychological stress, sparking my passion to support mental health. My core belief is that people can transform even the toughest situations—like being in prison or overcoming impossible obstacles—when they embrace the right mental attitude. The most rewarding part of my work is helping clients become their true selves. Every client takes me on a journey of learning about life, love, and compassion. I have a very practical approach, my expertise is full of helpful tools but at the same time I also work with dreams and the unconscious communication of the psyche.

My Story & What Drives Me

My style is supportive and helpful. In the right situation, I share a witty sense of humour with my clients. I find this to be a bonding experience that put things in perspective. I believe I am a robust therapist, I have listened to many traumatic stories with compassion and the ability to still think and process the experience with the client. I believe in boundaries and compassionate listening. I am a problem solver and I can interpret dreams that very often offer a surprising solutions or insight.

Types of Therapy I Offer

I offer therapy to individuals and young adults from 15 years of age to the older population. I am trained in CBT. This approach allows me to offer the client practical tools and focus on the here and now. I am trained in EMDR – this is a specific approach approved by NICE guidelines for trauma and complex trauma. I am trained in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. This is a deeper approach exploring how the past is linked to the present and how sometimes we make unconscious choices. My aim is to bring the into focus unhelpful hidden dynamics.

My Expertise & Focus Areas

My strongest area of expertise is work related to borderline personality disorder, emotional dysregulation and other personality disorders thanks to the MBT programme’s extensive training at The Maudsley. Working with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, stress and insomnia has been the core of my practice in the NHS during the many years I worked for IAPT and various GP surgeries. I developed a particular interest in health anxiety and chronic pain when I was working as part of the Health Department at St. Thomas. My passion is psychodynamic psychotherapy, working with dreams, and the deeper meaning of our psyche. Recently, I completed work as a psychologist for a large consultancy company. My work informed their EAP programme, as it explored and outlined key work-related issues and employee coaching opportunities. Thanks to my extensive training and clinical expertise I can confidently work with abuse, anger, divorce, low self esteem and stress.

My Therapeutic Approach & Methods

The core of being a Counselling Psychologist is to be trained in different therapeutic modalities. No approach should be superior to another, instead, the idea is to use the appropriate approach with the right presentation. Thanks to my extensive training and clinical expertise I believe I can offer a variety of methodologies. I use CBT to help clients solving practical everyday challenges. I focus on EMDR for trauma. I use MBT for personality disorders, emotional dysregulation, stress, anxiety, anger, emotional abusive relationships. I use psychodynamic psychotherapy for deeper issue, adverse childhood events and low self esteem problems.
I warmly invite you to take the next step on your journey toward healing—reach out today to schedule a session, and let’s explore how I can support you in becoming your truest self.

Hi, I’m Ylenia, a Relationship Therapist dedicated to supporting individuals and couples in navigating life’s challenges, improving communication and building stronger, healthier relationships.

I help individuals and couples reconnect, reflect and heal – both with themselves and within their relationships.

Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply seeking more clarity and connection, therapy with me offers a compassionate space to explore what is really going on beneath the surface. My approach is rooted in empathy, curiosity and collaboration.

Together, we will untangle the patterns that may be keeping you from feeling understood, valued and emotionally safe. You don’t need to have all the answers – just a willingness to begin.

Wherever you are on your journey, I’ll be alongside you as we explore things together.

My Style & How I Work

Empathy, trust and confidentiality are at the heart of my work. Therapy with me is a judgment-free space, where you can explore your thoughts, emotions and relationship patterns with the guidance of a professional.

Together, we’ll explore what’s holding you back and find new ways to understand and care for yourself. In the therapy room, I create a balanced and non-judgmental space where you will feel heard.

Fluent in both English and Italian, I strive to make therapy inclusive, accessible and culturally sensitive. I also stay up to date with the latest therapeutic practices through CPD trainings and BACP conferences, ensuring I provide the most effective support possible.

My Story & What Drives Me

My journey into therapy began with a deep interest in human relationships – why we connect, how we disconnect and what helps us repair.

Originally from Lazio, Italy, I moved to the UK over 10 years ago to fully pursue this calling. I began my path with a degree in Psychosocial Studies & Psychodynamic Counselling and volunteered for years with Samaritans, where I offered emotional support to individuals in distress. This experience shaped my understanding of how powerful being truly heard can be.

What drives me most is, witnessing those moments of reconnection: when a client begins to see themselves with more compassion, or when a couple finds their way back to emotional closeness. Those shifts are powerful and deeply human.

Types of Therapy I Offer

I offer individual and couples therapy for adults.

Whether you’re seeking support as an individual or a couple, I offer a warm and non-judgmental space where we can explore what you are going through and work towards meaningful, lasting change – at your pace.

My Expertise & Focus Areas

I support people dealing with many different issues including:

  • Anxiety
  • Self-esteem issues
  • Depression
  • Life changes

I help couples:

  • Improve communication
  • Rebuild connection
  • Navigate challenges such as conflict, intimacy issues, parenthood, infidelity

My Therapeutic Approach & Methods

My work is guided by an integrative approach, which means I combine different therapeutic models to best support each individual or couple I work with. I don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” method – each person is unique, so I adapt my approach based on your needs, goals and the issues you’re facing.

At the heart of my work is the belief that self-awareness and emotional connection are key to creating lasting change. I draw from:

  • Psychodynamic Therapy: to explore how past experiences might be influencing your present
  • Systemic Therapy: to understand how relationships and patterns affect your current situation
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT): to help individuals and couples better understand their emotional needs and rebuild safe, secure connections

I believe everyone deserves a space where they feel truly heard and supported. I offer a warm and empathetic environment where clients can openly explore their emotions and experiences, allowing us to work together toward meaningful goals.

My background is in Social Psychology, and I went on to complete further training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I have over eight years of experience working with clients in both NHS and private practice settings. My therapeutic approach is relaxed and informal. Together we can help make changes that will hopefully have a long lasting impact long after therapy is completed.

My Approach

I use a blend of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and person-centred therapy. CBT is a practical, solution-focused approach that helps you understand how your thoughts affect your feelings and behaviours. In our sessions, we might use tools like thought records or journaling to help identify patterns and move towards more helpful ways of thinking and coping.

Alongside CBT, my person-centred approach ensures sessions are guided by you. I offer a non-judgemental, compassionate space where you feel safe to talk openly and be yourself. Building a trusting relationship is key to our work together.

What I Can Help With

I support clients with a range of issues, including:

Anxiety and low mood

Low self-esteem and confidence

Relationship challenges

OCD

And more

If you feel I could be the right fit, I’d be honoured to work with you. Together, we can create a space where you feel safe, understood, and supported—where real, lasting change can begin.

Understanding Different Types of Grief

Grief takes many forms. Understanding the nuances can help you find the right support.

Grief isn't limited to bereavement—it can emerge from many types of loss, including relationship breakdowns, career changes, health diagnoses, or significant life transitions. These "disenfranchised losses" often lack social recognition but can be equally painful and benefit from loss counselling.

Grief therapy provides tools to navigate various forms of grief, each requiring slightly different approaches:

  • Acute Grief: The initial intense period following a loss. Therapy provides a safe container for overwhelming emotions and helps establish healthy coping mechanisms during this raw phase.
  • Complicated Grief: When grief becomes persistent and debilitating, interfering with daily functioning. Specialised therapeutic approaches help process blocked grief emotions and develop new pathways forward.
  • Anticipatory Grief: Occurs before an expected loss, such as during a terminal illness. Therapy helps manage the complex emotions of grieving while still being present with your loved one.
  • Collective Grief: Experienced during community tragedies or widespread loss. Group therapy and shared healing spaces can be particularly valuable during these times.
  • Secondary Losses: The ripple effects of a primary loss—changes in identity, financial security, or future plans. Therapy helps identify and address these often-overlooked aspects of grief.

How Therapy Supports Grief & Bereavement

Professional bereavement counselling helps by providing:

  • Validation that your grief experience is legitimate, regardless of its source
  • Techniques for managing overwhelming emotions when they arise
  • Strategies for handling difficult anniversaries, events, and triggers
  • Support in finding meaning and rebuilding identity after significant loss
  • Guidance on maintaining connections with what you've lost while moving forward
  • Tools to navigate changing relationships with others who may not understand your grief

Each grief journey is unique, and therapy adapts to meet you where you are. Whether you're experiencing recent loss or long-carried grief, specialist support can help you find your way through with greater ease and self-compassion.

When you're ready to explore grief therapy or bereavement counselling, UK Therapy Guide is here to connect you with a therapist who truly understands. Your journey matters, and finding the right support can make all the difference.

Find compassionate guidance to navigate the complexities of your grief journey.

Frequently Asked Questions About Grief Therapy

What is grief therapy or bereavement counselling?
Grief therapy, also known as bereavement counselling or loss counselling, is a specialised form of support that provides a safe and dedicated space for you to process the complex emotions associated with loss. A specialist therapist helps you navigate your unique grieving journey, develop coping strategies, and find healthy ways to integrate your loss into your life moving forward. It's not about "fixing" grief, but about receiving compassionate, professional support to help you find your path through it.
When is the right time to seek online grief counselling or bereavement therapy?
There is no single "right time" to seek support for grief. Some individuals benefit from online grief counselling or bereavement therapy immediately after a loss, while others may find it helpful months or even years later. The most important factor is seeking support when you feel ready to explore your feelings with a professional grief counsellor.
Will online bereavement counselling make me feel worse by focusing on my loss?
While engaging with difficult emotions in online bereavement counselling may temporarily intensify feelings, research consistently shows that addressing grief with professional support leads to better long-term mental health outcomes compared to avoidance. A qualified grief counsellor provides a structured, supportive, and safe environment to help you process your feelings constructively.
Can I truly connect with a therapist online for something as personal as grief?
Many clients find that online grief counselling creates a comfortable and private environment that facilitates deep connection. Being in your own safe space can make it easier to express vulnerable and difficult emotions related to loss. Online bereavement counselling offers accessibility and flexibility, which can be particularly valuable when grief leaves you feeling drained or when venturing out feels overwhelming.
Is seeking grief therapy a sign of weakness?
Absolutely not. Seeking support through grief therapy or loss counselling is a courageous and proactive step towards healing and self-compassion. Even the strongest individuals can benefit significantly from professional guidance and support during profound loss.
What types of loss can grief therapy help with?
Grief therapy and loss counselling can help with many types of loss, not just bereavement following a death. This includes grief stemming from relationship breakdowns, career changes, health diagnoses, significant life transitions, and "disenfranchised losses" that may lack social recognition but can be equally painful. Therapy provides tools to navigate various forms of grief, such as acute, complicated, anticipatory, collective, and secondary losses.
