Through evidence-based approaches like CBT, psychodynamic therapy, or mindfulness techniques, therapy offers practical tools to manage stress while addressing deeper patterns that may be holding you back. Our network includes specialists in "urban mindfulness" techniques specifically designed to help Londoners create mental space within the city's intensity.

I am a psychotherapist, and I believe we can write our own life stories. I have a particular interest in couples work and I am a former musician, so I like working creatively. I have years of experience working with both couples and individuals.

I am a relational practitioner and qualified psychotherapist. I am a Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA) with a Masters Degree (MSc) in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy and a Clinical Diploma (Cl Dip) in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy. I am certified by the European Association of Transactional Analysis (EATA) and I have a certificate of accreditation in the NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) endorsed ‘couples therapy for depression (CTFD)’ programme at the Tavistock Institute. I completed my CTA and Masters training at the Metanoia Institute, London.
As a former professional musician I understand the pressures of performance, judgement, and balancing creativity with financial stability. I believe these types of pressures affect everyone so I like looking creatively at our life situations and using the power of imagination to help us move toward the places we want to inhabit.
I am registered as Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), the British Association of Performing Arts Medicine (BAPAM), the International Association of Relational Transactional Analysis (IARTA)and the European Association of Transactional Analysis (EATA). I offer concessionary rates for BAPAM-registered clients. I am governed by these organisations codes of ethics. I am also registered as a mentor for musicians through the Co-Pilot: the Musicians’ Mentoring Network. In my past training I have volunteered at Richmond Aid for one year and I worked with young people by volunteering at Hounslow Youth Counselling Service for nine months.
I am currently working face-to-face and online. I like to work with clients on a weekly basis as I think that, like exercise, consistency helps support meaningful change. I offer face-to-face sessions in Richmond at the Practice Rooms on a Monday night and during the day on a Thursday and Friday. At other times I work online.
If you would like to consider working with me, I encourage you to book an initial session for me to understand where you are and what you might like from therapy. From there, if we agree we would like to work together, we move into therapeutic work.

I’m Sahar, I’m a qualified and accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with over 25 years of experience in the field.

After qualifying in the mid 1990’s I went into studying EMDR and various other trauma related courses. In 2010 I further studied at Birkbeck university of London, where I gained a BA Hons in Theatre studies and Humanities. Over the years I have developed a theatre within therapy model of working with individuals and groups using my psychotherapy experience to enable clients to begin a new narrative and pathway for their self-development and self-discovery. Your interpretation will allow you to see issues in a different perspective, helping to change your belief and enable you to think and behave in a more positive way.

I have worked extensively with clients from a range of backgrounds including perpetrators, young people and those who have suffered trauma. I have worked within the South Asian communities and refugees and I am very passionate and compassionate about the work I carry out. My aim has always been to enable clients to reach their goals and seeing their potential as the client can really make that investment for themselves.

My approach to therapy is a holistic one, incorporating an integrative modality which includes person-centered, psychodynamic, CBT and faith based- therapy. Within my trauma informed therapy I use EMDR and tapping therapy within my trauma therapy. The wounds are sensitive and need time for healing. Working with the Mind, Body and Spiritual self, by body scanning, mediations, and breath work you can learn to rewrite your narrative and become compassionate to yourself. It’s looking at ways to better understand the reason you are reacting in the way you are. This could be your thinking or behavioural style which has been led by your fragmented thinking patterns. I am very sensitive and compassionate to my clients and use the space so you can connect back to who you are.

London offers one of the world's most diverse therapy landscapes, with practitioners specialising in everything from anxiety and depression to relationship issues, trauma, and workplace stress. At UK Therapy Guide, we've spent over a decade building relationships with London's most qualified therapists to ensure you receive expert support tailored to your specific needs. Finding the Right Therapist in London: Our Approach

At UK Therapy Guide, we understand that finding the right therapist is about more than just matching qualifications to symptoms. Our unique approach considers the practical realities of London life, including commute times, proximity to tube stations, and work schedules.

Beyond logistics, we focus on the crucial therapist-client connection that research shows is the strongest predictor of successful outcomes. We achieve this by going beyond standard directory listings to understand the therapeutic style, personality, and specific expertise of each London-based counsellor in our network.

Every therapist in our London network undergoes a rigorous vetting process that exceeds standard accreditation requirements. We verify their professional credentials, insurance coverage, and clinical supervision arrangements. Most importantly, our founder personally interviews each practitioner, ensuring they meet the same standards she would want for her own family and friends.

Discover UK Therapy Guide's unique approach to finding the right therapist in London, considering practicalities like location and commute, as well as personal compatibility and expertise.

In-Person Therapy vs. Online Counselling in London

Choose between in-person therapy for personal connection or online counselling for convenience and flexibility, adapted to fit your lifestyle in London.

London's size, transport challenges, and busy lifestyle make the choice between in-person and online therapy particularly significant. Both formats offer distinct advantages that might suit different needs and preferences.

In-person therapy provides a dedicated physical space away from your daily environment, which many clients find helpful for creating mental separation from work and home life. Face-to-face sessions in a London therapist's office can offer a sense of presence and connection that some find irreplaceable, particularly for deep emotional work or for those who find digital communication challenging.

Online therapy with London counsellors eliminates the city's often stressful commute times, which can average 74 minutes round-trip. This convenience is especially valuable during winter months or transport disruptions. Research confirms that online therapy delivers comparable effectiveness to in-person sessions for many common mental health concerns, including anxiety and depression.

Types of Therapy Available With London Therapists

Our London network includes practitioners trained in all major therapeutic approaches, ensuring we can match you with the right methodology for your specific needs:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours, particularly effective for anxiety, depression, and specific phobias.

Psychodynamic Therapy

explores how past experiences influence present patterns, helping uncover unconscious processes that may be affecting your relationships and self-perception.

Person-Centred Therapy

emphasises your innate capacity for growth within a warm, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship, focusing on self-acceptance.

London's diverse communities are reflected in our network's specialised services, including culturally sensitive therapy, LGBTQ+ affirmative counselling, and neurodiversity-informed approaches.

What to Expect from Your First Session with a London Therapist

During your initial consultation, expect a warm welcome and a chance to discuss your concerns and goals in a supportive London therapy setting.

Your initial consultation with a London therapist typically lasts 50-60 minutes and serves as an introduction for both parties. The therapist will explain their approach, confidentiality boundaries, and session structure while gathering information about what brings you to therapy.

Most first sessions follow a semi-structured format, with the practitioner asking about your current concerns, relevant history, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. This is also your opportunity to ask questions and get a feel for the therapeutic relationship—trust your instincts about whether you feel comfortable with this professional.
